GameTime Sports: Brendan Flatow's Journey to Broadcast MVP

At Mascot Media, we’re always inspired by the passion, drive, and sheer determination of high school broadcasters, and one name that has truly set the bar this year is Brendan Flatow of Springside Chestnut Hill Academy (SCH).
Brendan’s remarkable journey from an ambitious idea to a full-fledged student-run broadcasting powerhouse has earned him the title of Broadcast MVP for the 2024-2025 season.

From Vision to Reality
Brendan’s story starts not with a polished production, but with a simple vision. As a sophomore at SCH, he recognized an opportunity that was too good to pass up: his school had no student-run broadcasting program, and the athletics department needed a platform to bring their games to a wider audience. Most students might’ve thought it was a good idea, but Brendan took action.
In the quiet hours of his high school years, Brendan poured countless hours into researching, talking to professionals, and trying out different methods. His goal was to create something that would elevate SCH’s sports teams and provide a lasting legacy for future students passionate about broadcasting. GameTime Sports, was born.
Brendan's Pursuit of Excellence
By his junior year, Brendan had the foundation of GameTime Sports up and running. He started broadcasting every game he could, from basketball to football, tennis to golf. By the end of the school year, he was on the verge of realizing his dream of broadcasting every varsity home game with students behind the mic, running the show, and bringing the action to life for fans far and wide.
But the road to success was never easy. Broadcasting wasn’t just about having the passion; it was about having the equipment. And for a high school student, that meant funding a setup on his own. With no budget to back him, Brendan rolled up his sleeves and got to work. Over the summer before his senior year, he went out into the community, selling advertisements to local businesses and raising the necessary funds to purchase the equipment he needed. His hustle paid off, and by his senior year, GameTime Sports was equipped to take on even more games, reaching more fans, and making an even bigger impact.
In just two years of broadcasting, GameTime Sports has amassed some seriously impressive statistics: 500+ hours of games broadcasted, $4,000+ in advertising revenue, and 700,000 unique viewers tuning in. But perhaps most impressive of all is Brendan’s dedication to making sure every team gets a spotlight. Whether it’s football, tennis, basketball, or even squash, every SCH team has had their moment on the airwaves thanks to Brendan and his team’s efforts.
What’s even more remarkable? GameTime Sports is completely student-run. There’s no teacher pulling the strings behind the scenes; everything from production to promotion is led by Brendan and his fellow students.
Beyond Game Broadcasts
But Brendan’s influence doesn’t stop at broadcasting games. He’s been instrumental in creating graphics, videos, and even sit-down interviews with athletes, producing weekly TV shows and documentaries that bring the stories of SCH’s athletes to life. For Brendan, it’s about telling the stories of the students who play and giving them a platform to shine.
Through his leadership, GameTime Sports has provided more than just game coverage; it’s given students a place to find their passion in broadcasting and media, while also uniting the school community. Brendan’s vision has left a lasting impact, ensuring that future students will continue to have the opportunity to develop their skills in a professional, student-run environment.
A Legacy That Will Last
Brendan has created a platform that will keep growing long after he’s graduated, allowing more students to step into the world of sports broadcasting and discover their passion for media.
At Mascot Media, we couldn’t be prouder of everything Brendan has accomplished. His story is the perfect example of how vision, hard work, and a bit of entrepreneurial spirit can turn a dream into a legacy. Brendan has set the bar high for future student broadcasters, and we have no doubt that he will continue to do amazing things in the world of media.
